The Jewelry Box
Shepard Ramsey
Studio Workshop
Class of 2024
I started ceramics my freshman year and instantly knew I wanted to continue the class. I was super excited about this year’s Studio Workshop class because I wanted to push myself in every assignment to create lids, teapots, and surface designs. For this year’s Spring Art Show, I created a plant-themed jewelry set. I started by hand making three leaf-shaped bowls and used a dark and light green stroke and coat glaze. I then created a jewelry box and two pairs of leaf-shaped earrings to match the bowls. When I created my jewelry box, I handbuilt all of the sides and then used coils to blend them together. When I was young, I lost a very important piece of my mom's jewelry because I didn’t have a place to store it. I wanted to create this jewelry set for my room so I have a reliable place to store my jewelry while adding a pop of color to my house. Studio Workshop has been the perfect opportunity for me to broaden my knowledge about art while pushing myself in all aspects of my work.
